Overview
DreamWorks woke up to media consolidation. Created in 1994 by Steven Spielberg (film director/producer), Jeffrey Katzenberg (former Disney film executive and animation guru), and David Geffen (recording industry maven), DreamWorks produces live-action movies (The Terminal, The Ring) and TV shows (Las Vegas). It produced computer-animated features through DreamWorks Animation, until spinning off the unit to shareholders in 2004. DreamWorks also pulled out of the GameWorks video arcade business it started with SEGA and Universal Pictures, and sold its music business to Universal Music. The three founders sold DreamWorks to rival Paramount Pictures in 2006, ending the big-budget, independent-studio experiment.
